The Bureau of
National Affairs, Inc.I Medicare Report, August 2008
Medicare Report
Responding to highly critical
comments from hospital groups, the Centers for Medicare &
Medicaid Services July 31 finalized three of nine proposed
so-called “never events” for which it will no longer pay under
the FY 2009 inpatient prospective payment system (IPPS) final
rule. The
IPPS final rule, published in the August 19 Federal
Register, is effective Oct. 1. The agency is adding three
new hospital-acquired conditions for which it will not pay
additional money.These conditions consist of:
-
Surgical site infections
following certain elective procedures, including certain
orthopedic surgeries, and bariatric surgery for obesity;
-
Certain
manifestations of poor control of blood sugar levels;
and
-
Deep vein thrombosis or
pulmonary embolism following total knee replacement and hip
replacement procedures.
The 'MDN Total
Solution' can ensure
that this new “never event” remains a
“never event”
From glucose data collection to
web-enabled reports; automated insulin dosing to outcomes
measurements, only MDN’s Total Solution to Better Patient
Outcomes provides the tools, metrics and resources needed to
ensure that this new “never event” remains a “never event”
at your hospital.
